Raided, arrested, released

Posted on October 29, 2011

Our camp was raided in the early morning hours Friday, October 28 between 1 am and 2am, resulting in 51 arrests, 14 females and 37 males. The police force used violence against many of the protestors before, during and after the arrests. The media team was specifically targeted and .

The females were sent to Las Colinas jail in Santee while the males were went to the Vista jail. As of midnight bonds had been posted for everyone ranging from $50-$500. Many of us returned to the Civic Center after being released and were greeted with overwhelming support from the community and the Unions of San Diego.

    • Please bring ready to eat food! Be creative -- simple to serve and easy to eat. This is critical that we support the hearty souls continuing to occupy the Civic Center area, despite the unreasonable rules of the city. PLEASE DELIVER to the food table at 3rd Ave at B St. -- you can park temporarily to drop this off!

Food for Thought

How We Can Improve Communication

  • Be Curious and Open to Learning: Listen to and be open to hearing all points of view. Maintain a attitude of exploration and learning.
  • Balance Advocacy and Inquiry: Seek to learn and understand as much as you might want to persuade. Conversations are as much about listening as it is about talking.
  • Show Respect and Suspend Judgment: Setting judgments aside will enable you to learn from others and contribute to others experiencing being respected and appreciated.
  • Seek Alignment rather than Agreement: Alignment is shared intention, whereas agreement is having a shared belief or opinion.
  • Be Purposeful and to the Point: Notice if what you are conveying is or is not “on purpose” to the question at hand. Notice if you are making the same point more than once. Do your best to make your point quickly with honesty and depth.
  • Own and Guide the Conversation or Process: Take responsibility for the quality of your participation and the quality of the work conversations by noticing what’s happening and actively support getting yourself and others back “on purpose” when needed.
  • Be Excellent to Each other: Share what’s important to you. Speak authentically; from your personal and heart felt experience. Be considerate to others who are doing the same.

Editor's Note

I have received many thank yous for this daily email blast, I hope you agree it is a step forward in our communication infrastructure.

Please help me get the information for each daily email:

  • Committees should let me know where and when they meet and if they have any information to publish -- I need a contact for each committee
  • If you have media, like videos or photos or even a written account, please email it to me as quickly as you can.
  • I would like someone who is a Facebook regular to send me some links of interesting and relevant articles that are posted there. Contact me if you can do that.
  • I need at least one or two other people who can help publish the blast. contact me if you are interested:raylutz@citizensoversight.org

GOOD NEIGHBOR POLICY
To allow for a respectful and safe environment for our Occupy family, Occupy San Diego announces the following Good Neighbor Policy (similar to that adopted by Occupy Wall Street):

  • Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol anywhere in the occupied space in Civic Center Plaza;
  • Zero tolerance for threats or acts of physical or sexual violence towards anyone;
  • Zero tolerance for abuse of personal or public property.
  • OSD will limit drumming on the site to between the hours of 11am and 5pm only.
  • OSD encourages all participants to respect health and sanitary regulations, and will direct all participants to respectfully utilize appropriate off-site sanitary facilities.
  • OSD will display signage and will try to have safety and/or community relations mediators in Civic Center, in order to ensure awareness of and respect for our guidelines and Good Neighbor Policy.
  • OSD will at all times have a community relations mediator on-site (to be appointed each day), to monitor and respond to community concerns and complaints.

User's Tip

Since we get new subscribers every day much of the email blast will be the same as the last one. BUT, you can view JUST THE DIFFERENCES if you want to, so you can read it faster.

  1. Go to the web version of the email blast.
  2. Scroll to the bottom. Click "More Topic Actions"
  3. Go to the sections "Compare Revisions"
  4. Compare the current topic ("3" in this one) to 1 (which is the prior day's)
  5. Click COMPARE.

Notes:

  • This does not show some changes, like images, so you should scan the original email too.
  • At the bottom of the original topic, you can view any older version (click the numbers) or comparisons ("<") by clicking on the list. (Doesn't work for our case of comparing one day to the next because there are usually several revisions before the final one, so you have to use the "Compare Revisions" function.

  Food for Thought

*How We Can Improve Communication*

* Be Curious and Open to Learning: Listen to and be open to hearing

all points of view. Maintain a attitude of exploration and learning.

* Balance Advocacy and Inquiry: Seek to learn and understand as much

as you might want to persuade. Conversations are as much about

listening as it is about talking.

* Show Respect and Suspend Judgment: Setting judgments aside will

enable you to learn from others and contribute to others

  experiencing being respected and appreciated.

* Seek Alignment rather than Agreement: Alignment is shared intention,

whereas agreement is having a shared belief or opinion.

* Be Purposeful and to the Point: Notice if what you are conveying is

or is not "on purpose" to the question at hand. Notice if you are

making the same point more than once. Do your best to make your

point quickly with honesty and depth.

* Own and Guide the Conversation or Process: Take responsibility for

the quality of your participation and the quality of the work

conversations by noticing what's happening and actively support

getting yourself and others back "on purpose" when needed.

* Be Excellent to Each other: Share what's important to you. Speak

authentically; from your personal and heart felt experience. Be

considerate to others who are doing the same.

  *GOOD NEIGHBOR POLICY*

To allow for a respectful and safe environment for our Occupy

family, Occupy San Diego announces the following Good Neighbor

Policy (similar to that adopted by Occupy Wall Street):

    * Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol anywhere in the occupied

      space in Civic Center Plaza;

    * Zero tolerance for threats or acts of physical or sexual

      violence towards anyone;

    * Zero tolerance for abuse of personal or public property.

    * OSD will limit drumming on the site to between the hours of 11am

      and 5pm only.

    * OSD encourages all participants to respect health and sanitary

regulations, and will direct all participants to respectfully

      utilize appropriate off-site sanitary facilities.

    * OSD will display signage and will try to have safety and/or

community relations mediators in Civic Center, in order to

ensure awareness of and respect for our guidelines and Good

      Neighbor Policy.

    * OSD will at all times have a community relations mediator

on-site (to be appointed each day), to monitor and respond to

      community concerns and complaints.

    User's Tip

Since we get new subscribers every day much of the email blast will

be the same as the last one. BUT, you can view JUST THE DIFFERENCES

if you want to, so you can read it faster.

   1. Go to the web version of the email blast.

   2. Scroll to the bottom. Click "More Topic Actions"

   3. Go to the sections "Compare Revisions"

   4. Compare the current topic ("3" in this one) to 1 (which is the

      prior day's)

   5. Click COMPARE.

  Notes:

    * This does not show some changes, like images, so you should scan

      the original email too.

    * At the bottom of the original topic, you can view any older

version (click the numbers) or comparisons ("<") by clicking on

the list. (Doesn't work for our case of comparing one day to the

next because there are usually several revisions before the

final one, so you have to use the "Compare Revisions" function.
